Wicked in Mercury Glass

Just in time for Halloween, I have one of my favorite projects!  As promised, I used the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate for both a card and a Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box.

For my card, I started with a Basic Black card stock base.  I added a piece of Gorgeous Grape card stock and the Glass Designer Acetate on top of that.  I really like the effect of the acetate on top of the Gorgeous Grape!  I cut out "Wicked" in Basic Black and Gorgeous Grape and layered them.  I cut out the spiders in Basic Black.  I added the Shimmery Crystal Effect to all.  Finally, the sentiment is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Whisper White card stock and cut out using the Ornate Frames Dies.

For the Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box, I cut it out of the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate.  Because that material is relatively thick, I ran it through my die cut machine a couple of times to be sure it cut through.  A bone folder was used to curve the sides.  I filled the box with 4 Halloween Dove Promises.  It was finished off with a bow and a tag.

Stampin' Up! Paper Trimmer - A Review

I've had the new Stampin' Up! Paper Trimmer for about 3 weeks now.  And I estimate that I've made more than 1000 cuts so far.  So, I'm ready to share my thoughts about it with you.  Plus, it will be available for order on November 1 and I want you to know what you are ordering!

Facts from Stampin' Up!

Paper Trimmer
Item: 152392 | $25.00 usd/$34.00 cad
  • 15-3/8 x 8 x 1/2” (39 x 20.3 x 1.3 cm)
  • Includes 1 cutting blade and 1 scoring blade.
  • Includes imperial and metric measurements.
  • Ruler and grid protected by durable plastic cover.
  • Point on cutting handle for precise measuring.
  • Right-side grid for cutting thin strips.

My observations:

1.  The Paper Trimmer is lighter and leaner than it's predecessor!

2.  It has an opening to hang it, if wanted.
3.  The blades are so much better!  You will be so impressed with the improvement in just the blades!
4.  The blade housings themselves are much easier to handle.
5.  The cutting guide snap locks into place, so no slide lock is needed.
6.  The extension arm is much easier to use!  There is no longer any gap; when extended, the arm creates a continuous surface.

7.  The extension arm is very sturdy and no longer needs a "foot" when it's extended.
8.  When the extension arm is closed, there is a ridge along the left side that measures 6".  It's great for holding small pieces of paper in place.
9.  The cuts are clean.  No shredded paper and no rough edges!  (Types of materials I've cut:
  • Heavy weight and "normal" weight whisper white and very vanilla card stock
  • Colored card stock
  • Foil sheets
  • Glimmer sheets
  • Mercury Acetate sheets
  • Designer Series Paper
  • Embossed papers
  • Note:  with the previous cutter, if I tried to trim a piece of card stock that I had embossed, the card stock usually tore.  This has not happened once with the new trimmer and I've done it many times.
10.  Use a light touch when cutting.  Using a heavy hand may leave a ridge on the edge of your paper.

Others have commented that they've been able to cut multiple sheets simultaneously.  I haven't tried that yet.

Refill blades will be available in January.  There will be 4 in a pack and they will sell for $12.00  I think that's a much more convenient size than the previous 2 pack!

How about Free Shipping?

Christmas Wishes

Hello stampers!

This week the folks over at Freshly Made Sketches are having a sketch challenge that caught my eye, so I decided to participate.

I used products from the Toile Tidings Suite for my card.

And here is the sketch from FMS:

I stamped the images in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them with Stampin' Blends.  (The leaves on the branch are colored with the Garden Green Stampin' Write Marker.)  The greeting is stamped in Real Red.  The background is from the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper with a border of Copper Foil.

Click the image above to play along or to see what others have created with this sketch!

Mercury Glass Christmas

Hi there stampers,

**I apologize if you received an earlier version of this post.  I hit "go" instead of "save" and didn't realize until it showed up in my inbox.  Oops!**

I finally took the wrapper off my package of Mercury Glass Designer Acetate from the Holiday catalog.  It's pretty amazing.  There are two different patterns, 4 sheets, two of each.  I used one for today's card.  I'll share the other pattern next week.

I stamped the greeting from Merry Christmas to All in Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White card stock and cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  The greeting panel is adhered to a piece of Copper Foil cut out of the next larger die from the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  I used Mossy Meadow card stock and the Sprig punch and placed them around the greeting.  The Mercury Glass Designer Acetate is adhered to another piece of Copper Foil and attached to a card base of Cherry Cobbler card stock.  I added some Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels to complete my card.

If you haven't tried the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate, I encourage you to give it a try.  I think you'll be really pleased with the unique look it brings to your projects.
